South Leicestershire School Sports Partnership Honoured with National Recognition at 2026 School Games Impact Awards
South Wigston High School, Leicestershire & Rutland – 02 June 2026
South Wigston High School in Leicestershire is proud to announce that the South Leicestershire School Sports Partnership has been recognised as a winner at the 2026 School Games Impact Awards, a national honour celebrating individuals/organisations who make exceptional contributions to school sport and physical activity.
The School Games, delivered by the Youth Sport Trust and supported by Sport England, is a nationwide initiative that provides inclusive and inspiring sporting opportunities for children and young people. The annual Impact Awards recognise individuals who have gone above and beyond in bringing this mission to life.
The South Leicestershire School Sports Partnership were selected for their outstanding work in Engaging Schools. Their Move It March project united schools across South Leicestershire to spark daily physical activity for pupils and staff. Through active travel, challenges and whole‑school competition, it embedded 60 active minutes, boosted wellbeing, and built lasting partnerships. The result: millions of active minutes and a culture shift or pupils and staff.
Headteacher Sara Fletcher commented:
“We are thrilled to see the South Leicestershire School Sports Partnership recognised nationally. Their dedication to creating an inclusive and engaging environment for all our pupils has made a real difference and embodies the values of our school. At a time when supporting children’s physical activity and wellbeing is more important than ever, their work has helped many of young people to embrace and enjoy being active”
This achievement shines a spotlight on the importance of school sport in improving young people’s physical and mental wellbeing, promoting character development, and fostering a sense of community.
